Common questions.
What is a Douyin API?
Here it means one HTTP endpoint that returns public Douyin (抖音) data as clean JSON: a video or image post in full, an account’s profile and recent videos, a video’s comments, every video in a collection, related videos, a hashtag’s summary and the hot-search board. You send an id, a link or the share text someone pasted, with a Bearer token, and get back typed records. There is no Douyin developer application to file and no Douyin account. Everything returned is public on Douyin.
Do I need a Douyin account or developer approval?
No. You send your FetchLayer key and nothing else. FetchLayer is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or sponsored by Douyin or ByteDance, and the Douyin name is used only to identify the platform the data comes from.
Are the counts exact?
Likes, comments, shares and saves are exact integers, not rounded display values. Follower counts are exact on a profile and on a video’s detail. Douyin does not publish how many times a video was played, so plays is always null — a collection’s total plays is published, and comes back with the collection.
How many of an account’s videos can I read?
Up to about 41 of its most recent videos, newest first, in one request. When the account has older ones, olderVideosExist is true and the response says so. Videos that belong to a collection (合集) can be read in full, in episode order, with collection-videos.
How complete are a video’s comments?
Top-level comments page 50 to a credit, up to 2000 in one request, with a cursor to continue, and each carries its exact likes, reply count and the province it was posted from. Replies are read with the comment-replies route.
Can I search Douyin?
No, search is not available. Start from a video, an account, a collection or the hot-search board — and paste any link or share text into resolve-url, which is free, to turn it into the id the other routes take.
How does billing work?
One credit per request, except comments (1 credit per 50) and collection videos (1 credit per 15, up to 500 in one request); both report it as pagesFetched. Parsing a link with resolve-url is free.
Can my AI agent use it?
Yes. All ten routes are MCP tools on the same FetchLayer MCP server: douyin_video_detail, douyin_video_comments, douyin_comment_replies, douyin_user_profile, douyin_user_videos, douyin_collection_videos, douyin_related_videos, douyin_hashtag_detail, douyin_trending and douyin_resolve_url. They are separate from the tiktok_* tools, use the same key and bill exactly like REST.
What is not available?
Search, play counts on a video, the videos under a hashtag, an account’s list of collections and its full history beyond its recent videos. There are no historical snapshots: counts are as they stand when you ask.
