How to scrape Reddit without an API key

Reddit overhauled its official API access in 2023, then blocked its main free, unauthenticated workaround on May 30, 2026. One narrower public access point still works, and this tool reads it — no developer application, OAuth client, or API key involved. Four steps, about a minute.

  1. Step 1

    Choose what to scrape

Pick Subreddit, User, Search, or Post — or paste any reddit.com link and the tool detects the type automatically.

  2. Step 2

    Set sort and time range

Choose how results are ordered — hot, new, top, or rising — and narrow to a time window such as the past day, week, or month.

  3. Step 3

    Run the scrape

Press Scrape. Results appear in seconds as cards or a sortable table, and can be filtered by keyword or type.

  4. Step 4

    Export your data

Download the results as CSV or JSON, or copy them as markdown formatted for an AI assistant.

What you can scrape

Subreddit posts

25 max

Pull the latest, hottest, top, or rising posts from any public subreddit — for tracking a niche community or collecting content ideas.

Thread comments

100 max

Paste any thread URL to extract the post and its comments with authors and timestamps — for summarising a discussion or feeding it to an AI assistant.

Keyword search

25 max

Search across all of Reddit or inside one subreddit for a phrase, product, or brand name — a quick way to find where a topic is being discussed.

User activity

25 max

Collect a public user’s recent posts and comments in one list — for reviewing history or understanding a prolific contributor.

Everything above is publicly visible on Reddit without logging in. The API removes every cap above via pagination, and adds vote scores, comment counts, nested reply trees, media (thumbnails, links), and scheduled monitoring — see the Reddit Scraper API or its API documentation.

Questions

Is this Reddit scraper really free?

Yes — completely free with no account, no API key, and no credit card. It runs in your browser and reads only the data Reddit already publishes publicly. There is no trial and nothing to install.

Do I need a Reddit API key or developer account?

No. Reddit overhauled its official API access in 2023, then blocked its main free, unauthenticated workaround on May 30, 2026. One narrower public access point still works, and this tool reads it — so you can scrape Reddit without an API key, OAuth client, or developer application.

How many posts can I scrape at once?

Subreddit, user, and keyword search results return up to 25 items — that is Reddit’s own cap, not ours. A single post returns up to 100 comments. Run more searches to go wider.

Can I scrape Reddit comments from a thread?

Yes. Paste any Reddit post URL and you get the original post plus up to 100 of its comments, each with author, timestamp, and full text. Nested reply structure is flattened into a single list.

Can I export Reddit data to CSV or Excel?

Yes. Every result set exports to CSV or JSON with one click, and CSV opens directly in Excel, Numbers, or Google Sheets. There is also a Copy for LLM button that formats results as markdown for pasting into ChatGPT or Claude.

How do I analyze Reddit data with ChatGPT or Claude?

Scrape a subreddit, search, or thread, then click Copy for LLM. It copies a clean markdown summary — titles, authors, dates, and body text, with vote scores explicitly noted as unavailable so the model does not guess at them — ready to paste into ChatGPT, Claude, or any AI assistant for sentiment analysis, theme summaries, or trend spotting.

Why are upvote scores and comment counts missing?

The public access point this tool reads simply does not carry vote scores, upvote ratios, comment counts, awards, or flair — no tool reading it can show those fields. They are only available through a full API integration.

Does this work on private or banned subreddits?

No. Only public subreddits are readable. Private, quarantined, and banned communities return no results, because the tool never logs in or bypasses any access control.

How is this different from the FetchLayer Reddit API?

This page is a browser tool for quick, one-off lookups with no setup. The Reddit Scraper API is the developer product: no 25-item cap, plus scores, comment counts, nested reply trees, media, and flair, callable from your own code or an AI agent over REST and MCP.

Need the full dataset?

Same sources, none of the limits — as clean JSON via REST or MCP.
