What is MakerWorld?
MakerWorld is Bambu Lab’s 3D model community — the place people publish printable models, ready-to-print profiles tuned for a specific printer and nozzle, collections, and contest entries. Everything FetchLayer returns is data MakerWorld already publishes to anyone with a browser. FetchLayer is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or sponsored by Bambu Lab or MakerWorld.
Do I need a MakerWorld or Bambu Lab account?
No. You authenticate with your FetchLayer API key — the same Bearer token you use for every other platform. There is no MakerWorld login, no OAuth flow, no cookie to keep alive.
Can I get every model a designer has published?
No, and no API can: MakerWorld does not publish a designer’s catalogue anywhere. /designer-profile returns the complete lifetime numbers — models published, followers, likes, downloads, prints, boosts, level, badges, join date — plus the models the designer has pinned as a showcase. That showcase is not their full output. To study one designer’s work, search models and read the designer object attached to every result. We would rather say this than ship a filter that quietly returns other people’s models.
How is this different from your Printables API?
They are the two big 3D model communities and they behave differently. Printables is Prusa’s; MakerWorld is Bambu Lab’s, and its print profiles are tied to Bambu printers, nozzle sizes and AMS multi-material setups. Both are on FetchLayer, in the same JSON shape, behind one key — so you can search the same keyword on both and see which community a design idea actually lives in, and which licenses each one favours.
What can I filter a model search by?
Keyword, plus model type (3D printable or laser-cut), ordering (relevance, trending, newest, downloads, likes, collections, prints, boosts), Creative Commons license, category id, nozzle diameter, and whether the model ships with a ready-to-print profile. Results page with a cursor, and you can walk up to 100 pages in a single request.
What is in the notes field?
Every JSON response carries a notes array. It is empty when the result is complete, and carries a plain-English string when it is not — a page walk that stopped early, a print-profile list truncated by your own limit, or a listing MakerWorld itself cut short. It is the field that tells you whether to trust the count in front of you, so read it before you aggregate anything.
Can I download the images?
Yes. Model covers, gallery images, renders and designer avatars all come back as URLs, and GET /makerworld/media streams the bytes with HTTP Range support so a large render does not have to arrive whole. Only MakerWorld image hosts are accepted.
How does billing work?
One API request equals one credit, the same as every other FetchLayer platform — no multipliers. Parsing a MakerWorld URL with /resolve-url is free and consumes nothing; streaming image bytes bills as a normal request. Each page walked counts as one request, so pages: 10 bills as ten. MakerWorld is in Beta while coverage expands, at standard pricing.
